The Wigmaker

The wigmaker had a sign in front of his shop. The wigmaker used many different types of hair to make wigs. The different types of hair came from different places.

There were about twelve different twists a wigmaker used to weave the hair into a weft. Some twists would make the hair go straight down; others made it curve to the left. It usually took about fifty hours to finish a small wig, and it could take two hundred fifty hours to finish a large wig.

Once the wig had been made it needed to be to be set. The wigmaker used pomade and powder to help hold the curls on the wig in place. This white wig is an example if the finished product. For a much smaller price you could buy curls and braids.
